By Skill and Hard Work – Found-in-Blackburn Issue no:07 (2018) print.

This body of work, a group of mixed media works, relate to both my earliest and most recent memories. Objects used to discuss the effects of my childhood, mental health problems, and historical abuse. Using junk, held onto, the way my brain collects memories. Looking through memories to re-dress imbalance. The work, a reflection on the year I gained space to delve into my past deeper than ever before and, 20/20 vision seeing normally, or normality, how things should be seen! Found objects and remembered sentences, a catalyst to encourage the conversation of poor mental health problems. Let us mend!

ARTIFACT NO 1 - 12x8x5cm - Filled with emotion. Pain confusion, expressionless, motionless, thinking of a life less ordinary, wanting for normal a life on the edge of normality, teetering, desperation, painful to watch.

BLOCKED - 8x20x8cm - Time wrapped its hand around my throat, prevented the story from being told until a time, a time where I felt bold. I had words, I just struggled to speak.

VOID - 14x16x8cm - Devoid of stuffing, filled with nothing. The bravery shield, a band-aid on a bullet wound, lays discarded at my side, not yet deployed, as I try rise from the ashes.

HOLE - 14x10x8cm - Empty x 2 Abducted, beaten, abandoned, taken, broken. Lable says Lost not yet found. Too many times, we do not listen, do not hear! Quiet contemplation, no momentary pleasure, anymore.

YOU - Mono-print monoline on hand torn paper 12x15cm - My nose twitched, and lip curled, as I typed the words, letters landed on the paper, tears streamed down my cheeks. It was always you.

NO IDEA - 28x8x8cm - Soot damaged, burnt-out light-bulb pendant. Found upon the floor of a mental health sufferer's fire damaged flat. Melted, devoid of bulb, echoing screams of time spent on the edge.

LONG RAMBLING SENTENCES - Mixed Media 240x120x67cm - A way into my memories, adding pictures to my past. Black plastic DYMO tape stringing together words, remembered for whatever reason, separated by a simple full stop.

RUINDS - Ink and Clay 50x55x50cm - Residual letters of a time not forgotten, held onto like a discomfort blanket, until I gave them the thumbed seal of approval and now I could move forward.

YESTERDAYS - Mixed Media 20x55x50cm - Each tiny addition of these small, personal, newspaper style artifacts, move me a step further on my development, both holistically and artistically. A journey of self-centred research and mending.

CURB - White acrylic glass and palette 130x130x82cm - Rescued from the skip. Stored for over 3years in my studio (too good to throw away) intention unknown until I listened. 2 - 2 1/2
