About me

I am a 37-year-old contemporary video artist, the art I create is focused on human experience, everyday, and future expectations. My artistic expression depends upon imagery, light, projection, sculpture, and sound.

My practice has not always been within this medium, I first started this fine art degree as a painter. I have always been someone who experiments with different materials and I am interested in how artwork has evolved throughout the years.

In semester two I created a life-sized puppet that encouraged a viewer connection by projecting a short video of my animated face. I chose this year, to continue the theme however, it had to be very different. I followed my love of theatre and this is when shadow came to light.

I have been accepted onto a PGSE course to teach art at a secondary level. I will be starting this in September of this year.

My work explores how a shadow can stir both emotion and a response to everyday life through film. Each scene is created from card figures, only sections move but combined with lighting and sounds they create a reality of life, the life missed during covid. My interest in animation, movement in shadow, and film production reflect of Film maker Lotte Reiniger who was the first to create silhouettes televised film. My work continues in such a way however I have adapted my own technique of using shadows in animation. It is both direct, meaningful, stirs emotion and evokes human thoughts.
