About me

My name is Laura, and I am a foundation year student at UCLan. My goal for this year was to learn and utilise the creative process to apply myself and explore what it is to be a creator. In my months here, I’ve learned to operate a variety of machines to aid in my experimentation and building process, as well as use a diverse array of materials and media to represent and develop my ideas.

From Preston’s industrious history as an esteemed market town to a distinguished centre for the trade and manufacture of wool, linen and cotton following the Industrial Revolution and now a notable hub for the British defence aerospace industry, I wanted my gallery theme to reflect Preston’s growing involvements and achievements in this new sector. Given UCLan’s heavy involvement with this transformation, I wanted my gallery to be a nexus for students and the local community alike to learn more about technology; its history, future, consequences and implications on individuals and society through a fun and accessible medium like science fiction.
