About me

I am an emerging artist coming to painting in my late 40s. Originally from New Zealand, I am now settled in north Lancashire. I arrived in the UK when I was 19 and spent most of my 20s and 30s gardening for a living alongside raising my three children. Ill health forced a career change and after a stint in administration I then attended university for the first time, attaining both my BA and MA Fine Art degrees.

I have entered artistic collaborations on a couple of occasions which I always find exhilarating. I have exhibited work in several group shows as well as some solo shows. I am open to painting commissions, of which I have undertaken several. My work is on permanent display at Ashton Hall Garden Centre and Café. I have also done some garden design work both as part of my previous employment and on commission.

The garden sits between the house and the street, personal yet public, a liminal space full of opposites, redolent with ideas. Part of the natural environment but separate from it, being a place with borders. The garden speaks a language of life, death, nurture, decay, chance, intentionality, beauty, humility, impermanence, mundanity, and hope. A story lasting longer than our own personal narrative. It has a timeless quality that calls to the desire within us for some things to never change. Its vulnerable, fragile, strength remains temporary however long temporary lasts. My painting-based practice translates these ideas into materials.
