About me

Hi, I’m Emily a graduate at the University Of Central Lancashire. My work is greatly influenced by culture, colour and music, I am particularly interested in design and trend development, CAD illustration, pattern cutting and sustainability. Throughout my time at university I have developed on these skills by working on a placement year in London and gaining invaluable knowledge from tutors and technicians at the university. In my final year of study I have created a fully developed a final collection that focuses on slow fashion and sustainability by using dead stock fabrics, donated trims and second hand materials. The focus on this is very important for me as I want to work considering sourcing and slowing down fashion.

My collection ‘Childhood Sweetheart’ explores the loneliness felt in the epidemic in adulthood and how memories of childhood can bring a sense of escapism and nostalgia. With ‘grown-up’ worries and stresses increasing, a reminder of our youth can be a distraction from reality and uncertain times. By looking into my own childhood, I have developed strong aspects from photographic records into colour and print to relive my fondest childhood experiences. Having fun, role-playing and imagination are explored in my concept. Silhouettes are exaggerated with long hemlines being juxtaposed with lightweight voiles and playful touches of nostalgic trims and textiles.
