About me

I am a graduate fashion design student mainly specialising in womenswear. I was one of UCLan’s fashion department ‘ones to watch’ in my 2nd year of study. I then preceded to work for Urban Outfitters on placement in their head office in London as their womenswear design team assistant. For my final collection I have produced a sustainable conceptual collection focusing on repurposing and upcycling discarded materials. I have a huge passion for sustainable fashion and want to represent this in each piece of work that I create. Working from home for my final year has enabled me to become more resilient, resourceful and a much more confident designer. Creating my collection has forced me to focus truly on my passions’ and creative strengths, which in turn has helped me to secure my first graduate job with a fashion supplier in Manchester.

My final collection is a conceptual narrative exploring the way Covid-19 has affected the UK population. Charity stores and online marketplaces have become my textile resource where households pursued ‘lockdown clear-outs’. I used donated or low cost tents, bedding and vintage garments for my collection inline with my sustainable values. I re-worked items to make them trend aware directional pieces using techniques such as drawstring details, subtraction pattern cutting and utilising existing details (tent panels, seams, eyelets, guy ropes) to create one-off garments. My conceptual garments reflected my research, colour and fabric developments bringing my creative narrative to life.
