About me

Hi I’m Katie. Here is a selection of portfolio pages taken from my final Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 womenswear collection. Which include design research, developments, my final collection line up, technical flat drawings and my photoshoot. I have studied at UCLan for five years which included a sandwich year working at Pentex in Aldgate, East London. My role at Pentex was women’s nightwear design assistant, where I gained lots of experience creating CADS, tech packs, market and shop research, fabric and trim sourcing and confidence.

Life under the lens was inspired by the global pandemic, which lead to looking deeply into the good and bad elements of mould and bacteria. I experimented with different ways of growing my own mould to inspire my colours, fabrics and textiles developments. As you look under the lens at bacteria structures they start to resemble pieces of art. The beautiful colours and textures that appeared magnified inspired me to develop these forms and colours into garments full of escapism. I wanted to take something that is thought of as disgusting and show its natural beauty in a textural way.
