I’m an art foundation student working towards illustration, which I will be starting this upcoming September. I’ve always had a keen interest in art due to my family being rather artsy, but personally I love creating artwork as it’s a way to represent certain topics in a consumable way, and the process of creating art for a function helps me navigate and understand the world around me in a different light.
My project is linocut illustrations created for the book The Last Wish by Andrezj Sapkowski, as part of the popular book series The Witcher. I created a series of chapter illustrations and one title cover, focusing on environments within the book to create an overarching theme between prints. The linocut technique was a clear choice for me, as the series is set in a dark and gritty medieval world, so I used black ink to create bold and dark prints, and to sell the idea that the illustrations are made from within this time frame and this fantasy universe.
