About me

Hi, I’m Nicki Johnstone and I am a 3rd year dance student from The Wirral. I have been the chair of the dance society this year and have led the jazz classes. From this I have developed my leadership skills and handled responsibility. As part of the course, I have had the opportunity to do placements in primary and secondary schools. My plans for the future are to travel, however that may happen whether it is work abroad or on a cruise ship. I would also like to see myself ultimately teaching classes in all styles and potentially setting up my own dance school that will encourage anyone to dance.

My final independent project focused on the origins of jazz dance.  In it I looked at the characteristics of African dance and how it is evident in jazz dance today. That gave me the opportunity to explore the research I gathered through facilitating a three-week project with my participants. As a third-year dance student I have also been a member of UCLan Dance Company, and I was involved in the devising of a new dance performance under the guidance and artistic direction of professional choreographer Elisa Macauley.
