Illustration, BA (Hons)
Introduction
Welcome to the online showcase for BA (Hons) Illustration at UCLan. The illustrations and artwork on display, created by our graduating cohort of 2022, are testimony to their creativity, resilience and hard work. There’s has been an extraordinary university experience; each year has affected by pandemic restrictions which presented times of uncertainty, change and challenge yet their vitality and effort which carried them through is reflected in the diverse range of portfolios on show. For all professional illustrators creativity on demand and adaptability are essential parts of working life and our students have shown this in abundance during their university career.
The scope of the creative ideas, processes and craft on display is broad, playful, serious and inventive and each portfolio hints at a distinctive emerging visual voice. The projects completed by our students explore both the commercial communication contexts that illustration functions within, and an eclectic range of personal authorial themes, mirroring their concerns and commentary upon prevailing cultural debates, attitudes and events. We hope that you see in each illustrator’s portfolio, picture-making that is reflective and creative in its process, distinctive in its craft and execution and outward facing in its application. Pictures with personality, pictures with a voice, pictures with purpose.
