About
My name is Alex Bentham, throughout my life I have always been an adventurer and I love travelling. I have been to multiple countries and love trying different food.
From a young age, I have always been active and have enjoyed sports, from the scouting movement to playing football for 6 years and I am currently in the gym week in and week out.
I love design and have been employed by Millan Interiors for over 12 months working in luxury/high-end homes and designing new and exciting spaces for clients. Hanging curtains and blinds and going above and beyond the client's expectations.
I have a great eye for detail and love working as a team.
Project overview
The Windmill
The Windmill: My final project featured the old flour windmill in Parbold, Lancashire.
The history of the building spans from 1794 to the current day where it is used as an art gallery. Its original use was milling flour for the surrounding area. Then it was turned into multiple rooms where a few separate shops opened up.
The building itself is made from sandstone, which was produced in Parbold, the stone from Parbold was also shipped around the north of England to various places. My idea with this building was to build something unexpected, and a place where everyone would feel welcome.
After my researching, I decided to change the space from an art gallery into a Spa, it features all the different biomes from around the world: Jungle, Grassland, Desert, Ice, and Aquatic. I felt that this would bring a whole different side to visiting a spa. However, using this building I still wanted to inherit some of the characteristics within each room, whether it was flooring, windows or beams, keeping these would help keep the history within.
