About

My name is Amelia Critchley-Giles. I am a ceramic artist, creating abstract work based around the places I’ve called home and the surrounding areas. My process of creating is about the journey, not the end result, meaning no two pieces are ever the same. I have taught myself most of what I know about ceramics, so I have a learned outlook on the materials and process, instead of regimented precision.

Project overview

Glannau a Môr (shores and sea)

My work for this project is reminiscent of something you might find on a beach, or tucked away in a hidden corner of a mountain. These features all convey a sense of home to me, a longing for a place with incredible natural beauty. I chose to name my project in Welsh, once again calling back to my home. The abstract forms I create are unplanned, forming themselves as I continue to mould the clay.
