About

Through mediums such as charcoal, oil paints, or mixed media sculpture, I express femininity by intertwining it with macabre themes. Drawing inspiration from human, arachnid, and insect anatomy, I transform feared elements into delicate representations, offering a fresh perspective on subjects often perceived as grotesque or morbid.

Project overview

Exploring femininity through fear, trauma, death, and spiders

Embracing my love of spiders has been a cornerstone of my artistic journey, providing a canvas for raw and emotive exploration. From themes of feminism to the depths of fear and mortality, these creatures, often misunderstood, have been a source of fascination for me since my earliest memory of one skittering across my bedroom floor.

The striking aesthetics of spiders, coupled with their association with horror, serve as the focal point of my work. My decision to associate these aesthetics with the feminine form stems from the observation that spiders align with the misogynistic ideas of a woman: their long legs, cinched bodies, and their ability to evoke breathlessness. This connection inspired me to create artwork that is simultaneously fragile and powerful, challenging the notion of the male gaze through the lens of arachnids and femininity.

Ultimately, my art serves as a work for exploring the complex interplay between beauty, fear, and power, inviting viewers to confront their own biases and perceptions. By embracing the inherent contradictions within the spider's symbolism, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us, transcending the limitations imposed by societal constructs and embracing the beauty and power that lies within.
