About
My name is Anete Freimute, and I am currently a third-year undergraduate architecture student. I have been drawn to architecture since childhood, for its potential to visualise and draw. I have a great passion for visual communication, representation and technical drawings. I am a fast learner with digital software, as I really enjoy learning new skills that help me improve my work. Throughout my journey from college to my current third-year undergraduate studies, I have continuously developed new and existing skills which are valuable in the architecture industry. I am working towards becoming an architect and continuing to develop my skills and knowledge in the near future.
Project overview
Made in Fleetwood: Reborn Through Glass
Made in Fleetwood responds to Fleetwood's regeneration through architecture that supports local production, learning, and community empowerment. My project proposes a public glassblowing workshop and creative makerspace on a car park site, integrated with exhibition and residential spaces for apprentices and visiting makers. The design explores how architecture can facilitate the act of making as a tool for place, making and identity. A new civic typology that integrates social, productive, and educational purposes, where visitors and residents can engage in the craft of glassblowing and learn from makers. The facility supports the full cycle of creative production: design, making, living, learning, and consumption, positioning local craft as an investment in a more sustainable and circular economy. Architecturally, the project responds to Fleetwood's specific spatial, social, and cultural circumstances, with materiality and spatial organisation informed by the functional and environmental requirements of glassblowing practice, and inspired by Fleetwood's historical context.
