About

My artwork is created with mixed media, applied through traditional and unconventional methods to achieve a unique textural quality, before a professional finish on Photoshop. I use watercolour, gouache, acrylic, brusho, soft oil pastels, watercolour pastels, acrylic ink, luminance, watercolour and pit pastel pencils and more… I love to experiment with new media! Aside from paint brushes, the media is applied using twigs, chopped up credit cards and tooth brushes. I also mix toilet paper, salt, bubble wrap, bleach – anything that I feel will enhance an unusual texture. I love to travel and take inspiration from natural and urban settings; from the colours of rusty paint flaking away on decaying boats to mould growing on the textured stonework of historic architecture. My book, A Call for Action is the introductory book for an 8-book series, the remaining 7 books, one per continent, will explore animals native to their respective continent who are suffering at the hands of climate change, offering international appeal. I am seeking publication for this series I welcome all enquiries.

Project overview

A Cll for Action

The focus of research for my MA in Children’s Book Illustration has been how picture books can empower children to take action toward the climate change crisis. Contextual and literary research affirms today’s children aged 4 – 7 years, are emotionally equipped to respond empathetically and pro-socially to stories of climate change, yet few picture books tackle this sombre subject through a positive lens. Dystopian storytelling of environmental factors within children’s picture books is currently a popular trend. My body of research unveiled an opening for picture books to explore a fun new voice of hope and empowerment; vibrant, energetic use of colour has the potential to motivate thought, emotion and build momentum in response to the existential climate change crisis. My development of innovative textures coupled with energetic and carefully considered use of colour offers a distinctive new voice in the world of children’s book illustration.
