About

I am a Lancashire based sculptor that works with a combination of materials including Plaster of paris, wood and wire. My practice is driven by repetition, where making is guided by compulsive actions informed by lived experience rather than deliberate actions. Through this my work engages with ideas of compulsion, control and the need to repeat the right way.

Project overview

Without End

My degree show is a collection of plaster based sculptures representing the idea of obsessive compulsive repetition and process based works. My work explores the relationship between texture, repetition, and emotion especially how physical surfaces can reflect internal states. I’m drawn to materials that invite touch, and much of my practice involves carving, layering, and shaping forms that reference both natural patterns and human experiences. A lot of my making process is intuitive, but there’s also a strong element of repetition and control in what I do. This repetition is personal to me, it reflects how I navigate the world and process things, particularly through my experience with OCD. The act of making becomes a necessary, where each mark or carved line is a telling of compulsion. The physical labour of working with plaster is a crucial part of my process. When working I often repeat the same actions when it comes to casting, carving and smoothing until the piece reaches a balance between order and imperfection. The final forms retain the memory of the repeated action in uneven textures and imperfections.
