About
My work is driven by a passion for neuro-inclusive design and the belief that everyone deserves to feel anchored and safe in the environments they move through. With my project, ‘The Haptic Heart Hub’, I've been exploring how we can use our senses and nesting to create cozy, secure zones to help people regulate their own sensory experience. For me, it was spaces that offer the best opportunities for a deprived area like Blackpool, giving opportunities through hands on learning and skills learnt from local artisans and craftsman. By understanding the needs of neurodiversity and designing for the most sensory sensitive we create something truly inclusive that works for everyone.
Project overview
Haptic Heart Makers Hub
Haptic Heart Hub is a sanctuary designed to be a sensory escape for those who find the outside world a little too loud. I have designed this project as a form of a spatial antidepressant, a safe and inclusive haven where the act of making regulate the nervous system and lift the spirit. At its core, the Hub uses sensory zoning and environmental nesting to give people a choice in how they experience the world. From quiet, cozy nooks for decompression to active areas for skills sharing and socialising. Every inch is designed to help people feel anchored and empowered. Using a palette of inspiring eco materials and circadian lighting systems, the space mimics the natural world to help people reset. By centring on inclusivity and the power of touch, the hub proves that through thoughtful design and shared creativity, we can build a better, more connected way of living.
