About
Hi. I’m Chris During my three years of Architecture at the University of Central Lancashire, I’ve developed an interest and explored themes such as sustainability, collective life, cultural identity, and placemaking. I have found myself also exploring spatial layering - using different levels to create unique experiences for users, which I felt often goes overlooked or locked to certain individuals. My time spent at UCLan has certainly been impactful. I was selected to represent the university at the UK-MUC – a student sustainability conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I mentored business students from the University College Lanka for the University Global Challenge. And potentially my final achievement is being nominated for the UCLan’s Degree Show Awards 2025. These opportunities and experiences have supported my growth. Moving forward, I’m going to continue my architecture journey. At the time of writing, I’ll be pursuing a Part 1 Architectural Assistant position, where I’m sure I’ll gain crucial practical experience before progressing onto my Masters.
Project overview
Journey through Fleetwood
Our final year projects explored learning, storytelling, placemaking, and sustainability within Fleetwood. (1) Sidewinder Tower became an inviting landmark, engaging and informing visitors from afar. (2) Fleetwood-Hesketh Pavilion utilised the Harriet, a historic trawler, as the center of a ‘storytelling engine’, embedding Fleetwood’s stories within an architectural experience. (3) Maker’s Quarter is defined by a lozenge-making makerspace inspired by the town’s Fisherman’s Friend heritage. Collectively, the projects sought to invite visitors and empower the local community through memory, craft, culture and activity. My 3 projects form a journey which forms this experience, as someone moves through Fleetwood. It taught us to be mindful, as it is our architecture which can frame and allow for such discourse.
