About
I am a 3rd year Textile Design student with a strong passion for creativity, innovation, and continuous learning. Highly motivated and eager to develop both new and existing skills, I approach every project with enthusiasm and dedication. I specialise in surface pattern design using photoshop and illustrator , however, still enjoy all things tactile, particularly beaded embroidery. A lot of my inspiration for my work comes from travelling and places I have visited, I am always eager to broaden my knowledge on the world and spots that inspire me in this way. My ambition lies within the commercial development of the print and pattern design field, which I have showcased in this project.
Project overview
Petals and Pattern
Petals and Pattern is an exploration of florals in surface pattern design and takes into consideration history, colour and composition. Florals are complex and versatile, which will be shown through my research. Initially inspired by a solo trip to Salzburg, I was spurred on to investigate alpine flowers as the pretty florals sprawled across the scenic views were a lasting memory that stuck with me.
Visiting Salzburg grew my appreciation for the vibrancy and playfulness florals hold due to my visits to the colourful Mirabell gardens and the amazing Austrian Alps (both famous scenes from my favourite film ‘the sound of music') and left me with a longing to investigate and play around further. In the famous film ‘the sound of music’ there is a scene in which the main character Maria sews dresses from floral drapes, I wanted to carry through this scene into my own work, therefore, this project will be shown in the context of fashion. I will investigate how florals are typically presented within clothing and accessories and create my own carefully curated pieces of fashion.
