I have always enjoyed creative subjects and the arts since a young age, and this inspired my passion for fashion and styling. I love how you can tell a story through an image and that fashion is constantly changing and evolving.
Fashion is a chance to express yourself without saying a single word and I think this is so powerful. This course has taught me so many skills surrounding styling and marketing that will help me in my future career.
Not only that but it has also made me a more confident, outgoing, and well- rounded individual. I hope to continue developing my skills further in the industry and hopefully have a successful career in an artistic profession.
Project overview
Connection
My final major project was centred all around the theme of connection. I explored and many different types of connection such as human, romantic, literal, social media, friendship, animals and even researched into different love languages, personality traits and star signs to discover the impact they can have on forming connections.
After looking at lots of collections, I then decided that I wanted my shoot to be more stripped back to focus more on the connection between my two models rather than on the clothes. I also looked at lots of different magazines and picked out anything that related to ‘connection’. This helped to inspire my poses and post-editing. I wanted my shoot to be abstract and show connection, but not in an obvious way. I think the styling and stripped back colour palette which both compliments and contrasts with each look helps to convey this. The poses and the use of two female models adds a modern twist to a classic connection, which would typically be portrayed by models of the opposite sex.
In my post editing I used the contrast of black and white and colour to add more depth and meaning to the imagery. The still life imagery also represents connection, but in completely different forms such as in nature and architecture. Overall, the combination of images from my shoot and still life imagery work together to convey the theme of connection in my final publication.
