About

Hi I’m Hannah, a final year BA Photography student at the University of Lancashire. Born and raised in the Lake District, I have since a young age have been exposed to an abundance of natural beauty. As a result, I find my focus pulled to what others may overlook. Urban, manmade, and banal environments act as my playground for my photographic vision. Rather than photographing the landscapes that surround me and that I adore.

Project overview

fragments

This body of work is the culmination of my final degree project, continuing ideas developed throughout my photographic practice. It explores how I experience and navigate the world through photography, working instinctively and through close observation. I respond to moments of attention across both natural and urban environments, resulting in a fragmented, non-linear body of images centred on overlooked details, presented within a typological grid. Through in-camera cropping, I isolate fragments from larger scenes, drawing attention to surfaces, objects, and visual traces that might otherwise go unnoticed. The sequencing within the grid structure becomes important in shaping how the work is read, shifting individual moments into a collective rhythm. Nostalgia comes into play, where the internal becomes external — photography acting as a reflective and cathartic process through which experience is examined and understood.
