About
I’m a self-taught milliner who began making hats through a love of the races and a
fascination with the intricacy and detail of headwear. I chose to study a degree in fashion
to broaden my understanding of design and the creation of wearable art. I believe all
forms of fashion are connected through similar creative concepts, each requiring different
techniques and approaches. What I enjoy most about millinery is the freedom it offers,
there are no rules, and you can create whatever comes to mind.
Project overview
Art of the Fold
My final project was inspired by the artwork of Tamara de Lempicka. Her portraits celebrated the curves and striking features of her friends and former lovers, often incorporating elements of Cubism through the use of bold geometric shapes. I wanted to translate this visual language into my collection by celebrating the individuality of the body and the idea that everybody is different. I utilised the geometric forms within her paintings and transformed them through both garment construction and millinery techniques. The headpieces were designed to unify the collection, incorporating the same sculptural shapes while also making use of surplus fabrics left over from the garments.
