About
I am a multi media artist mainly through drawing and sculpture. I focus on the use of materials using a combination of spontaneity and planned processes. I enjoy finding balance throughout my practice and my work wether this be through mental stimulation, time or materials.
Project overview
Equilibrium
My practice has explored materials through sculpture alongside the importance of drawing in connection to development.
My practice focuses on several elements including the balance between materials and their properties, the balance between spontaneity and planned construction, the exploration of space and audience engagement.
I primarily work with large-scale charcoal drawings and sculpture. I use both forms of practice in tandem, using one to inform the other at each intersection. I work towards a balance of conscious and unconscious practice in connection to memory through my clay and charcoal drawings.
Over the last two years, my exploration of materials has progressed; by finding new ways to push them to their limit and by becoming more adventurous with scale and shape. Finding a balance between the materials is something that I contemplate consistently as this is where I can visually portray the equilibrium I find throughout each part of my practice.
The use of space is considered throughout my practice, evidenced by the large charcoal drawings that explore perception, depth and scale. This correlates with the floor-based sculpture positioned in the space of the audience; with its skeletal framework and organic, representational clay, this is larger than 2-3 people in one area. Aspects of the sculpture seems to resemble different things for different people. It resembles a lot of things but at the same time, resembles nothing at all. I believe this is through personal experiences and memory.
