About
I’ve always loved being creative and when the opportunity came to learn the craft of animation, I was happy to take it. I love creating art and writing stories, so animation allowed me to not only learn a new skill, but to create moving images to stories I create and truly visualise the words I write down.
I had no experience in animation, so I was going in blind, but I really grew an appreciation to animation, especially with 2D animation. It feels more personable, as each frame is drawn individually, and you can see the hard work and emotion through the characters and the environment around them in animation.
During my time studying I also dabbled in stop motion and 3D animation. Now that I’ve had three years of practicing, I feel confident in approaching the creation of short films and sharing them for the world to see, through social media and animation festivals. I am an artist first and foremost, but I also love storytelling, so animation the best of both worlds for me. I will continue to work on my craft and explore my future potential in animation.
Project overview
The Rat
My project, The Rat, is about a cowgirl named Betsy Bopper who goes through her regular routine of heading to the local pub, Bottoms Up. She comes across a dead rat and is disturbed. Little does she know, that the significance of rats will alter her life.
The story for this project was based on a real life event that happened to me. Of course, things have been heavily altered and dramatized for the sake of humour but the basis was that I did come across a dead rat, that later on vanished in the same spot I saw it.
I really enjoy films that make you theorise and think, like the Matrix, and wanted to add an element of thought to my film, so the ending is up to anyone’s interpretation. This animation is done in 2D and is three and a half minutes long, short and gets stuck in straight away.
