About

Deeply influenced by personal experiences, social challenges, and human behaviour, I am

driven by a desire to connect people. My practice generally focuses on the exploration of

human emotion through a physical medium. Inspired by the world around me, I approach

design with the intention of creating work that encourages reflection and emotional

connection. These influences shape the way I research, develop concepts, and

communicate ideas through garment construction, tailoring, and textile manipulation.

My design aesthetic balances refined tailoring with conceptual storytelling, combining

clean silhouettes, structured forms, and controlled fabric techniques to create garments

that feel both sophisticated and emotionally resonant. My graduate collection, Cycle of

Avoidance, explores how vulnerability and personal struggle can be transformed into

strength and self-awareness. As a designer, I aim to continue utilising fashion as a

platform to inform, challenge perceptions, and foster meaningful connections between

clothing and the human experience.

Project overview

Cycle of Avoidance

My collection explores the darker side of escapism, examining how the desire to momentarily escape the present can evolve into a compulsive avoidance of reality. Distraction, isolation, and addiction emerge as coping mechanisms, and it is these elements that I have researched and that ultimately have informed my creative process, decision-making, fabric selection and textile manipulation techniques. What may begin as a search for relief - through fantasy, oversleeping, excessive cleaning, gambling, or the consumption of alcohol and drugs- can develop into a cycle of avoidance. Over time, these behaviours pull individuals away from everyday routines, responsibilities, and emotional confrontation. My collection opens a nuanced dialogue around addictions such as digital overconsumption, gambling, alcohol dependency, and substance use, behaviours that are increasingly normalised, yet remain socially taboo. My work is positioned within the context of activist fashion and informed by designers such as Katherine Hamnett, and I aim to inform, educate, and encourage critical awareness. Through empowering silhouettes, focused material choices, and a curated colour palette, the garments communicate progression and transformation. Tonal colour combinations, distorted and angular forms, assertive pleats, and tailored suits reflect emotional tension and release. Angular tailored pieces are intersected with ‘sunray’ and ‘knife’ pleats in unexpected areas. The collection ultimately asserts that vulnerability can be reclaimed as strength, challenging perceptions of weakness and reframing it as a source of resilience, agency, and potential for social reflection and change. Fabrics are manipulated either through silhouette and construction or textile techniques, especially pleating, to represent reclaiming control and ownership.
