About
Interior Design has been a passion of mine ever since I was very young, and it has been the career I’ve always worked towards throughout high school and college where I studied various design subjects, as well as my years of study at university with me finishing my interior design degree. Some of my favourite types of interior projects to work on are retail and hospitality spaces. Good design can further help businesses to thrive and grow; community and public spaces can bring people together. Spaces to socialise or work alongside each other, as well as creating interior spaces which are inclusive. Interiors that can assist in improving the mental health of those within the space. I am super grateful for all the expertise and experience that university has given me which I will apply towards my career, and I look forward to continuing to develop my skills whilst working in the industry. I’m originally from West Yorkshire, but happy to travel for work.
Project overview
Creating Space for Community
My final honours project is based around The George Hotel located on St George’s Square in Huddersfield Town Centre. An iconic building locally for its role in Huddersfield’s contribution in the formation of Rugby League and Italianate architecture style. The closure of many of the markets across Huddersfield in recent years has led to a lack of spaces for artists, small businesses and students in the local area to display and sell their works. For this reason, I wanted the main aim of my design to be to create a small business market in the George Hotel to make use of the abandoned hotel and in doing this I hope it would help local businesses to boost their reach to the local community, boost their overall sales and hopefully create a community of artists in the local area. I also considered converting other parts of the hotel into a café social space where people would meet friends, co-work in the company of others or host study groups as Huddersfield also has a lack of free-to-use spaces for people to sit and relax.
