About

The work exhibited here reflects three years of studying architecture and developing my personal design. Through my time here at UCLAN, I have developed a range of techniques such as tectonic resolution, environmental and sustainability strategies and unique design. These are particularly evident in my third-year final project titled 'toshi kobō' where I focused on materiality and sustainable structure. This is represented in my detail wall section. Not only has my time at university strengthened my architectural knowledge but it has also made me a more resilient, confident and a more effective leader. Being a third year course representative alongside my studies have focused my ability to build good relationships with my associate and tutors. My interest lies in designing sustainable architecture that is both environmentally conscious and visually engaging. I have taken a community and user centred approach, aiming to make inclusive spaces that engage the user both emotionally and physically. This has been shaped through my research in the history and theory module. Rooted in sustainable practice, my designs draw influence from Japanese passive design strategies to develop climate responsive and context sensitive architecture. I am driven by my desire to learn and moving forward, hope to strengthen my knowledge and be a valued member of a working practice. I aim to refine my techniques further and become a successful professional, proficient in as many aspects as possible.

Project overview

Made in Fleetwood

Made in Fleetwood is a community-centred project that aims to aid an influx of visitors to Fleetwood. The task was to curate an artefact that can be created in a 'maker space' within our concept. My design was inspired by passive Japanese architecture and features a large courtyard and environmentally friendly materials. My maker space focuses on stone carving. I created simple yet meaningful designs that can be crafted under the guidance of an instructor within a day. It takes the act of collecting rocks from the beach to a new, more elevated level. My project titled 'Toshi Kobō' creates a warm, inviting environment where people can learn to craft memories of their journey encapsulated in a handcrafted object.
