About
A key driving force of my practice is curiosity and my desire to understand the world around me. This has led me to use illustration as a way of exploring the interesting parts of life. I produce works inspired by my love of printmaking and mark making and I love working with environment and character design. I especially like creating expressive characters. My practice often reflects my interests in architecture, nature, music and literature. My goal is to work towards a career in publishing, specifically in children’s book illustration, producing black and white illustrations for middle grade readers.
Project overview
Re-illustrated edition of 'The Wizard Of Earthsea.'
This project is a re-illustrated edition of 'The Wizard Of Earthsea' by Ursula K Le Guin where I created black and white pencil illustrations throughout the book and a full colour front and back cover. The medieval fantasy novel has always been a favourite of mine and to be able to create character and environment centric illustrations for it was fantastic. I began this project with the idea to revive the book and bring it to a new audience. As a fantasy classic it’s a well revered novel but I found that all the illustrated editions of the books were collector editions and may not have been made with a wider audience in mind. As a novel for middle grade readers, I wanted to create illustrations that would elevate the book for this audience. I worked with fine liner to create delicate drawings that would capture the attention of the readers whilst developing a representational illustration style for the project to really capture the world and characters as I wanted them to be seen.
