About

As an artist I focus on sculpture and sound and how the two interact to make environments that explore emotional and familial memories. I aim to create spaces that touch on subjects that are often overlooked and expand on them to emphasise the importance of the small aspects of people’s lives. To take the normal every day and turn it into something that can help the viewer to process or reflect on their own lives. Over the past 3 years of my degree, I have really found myself as an artist and know where I fit within the art world. Whilst this will change and develop as I continue to create after university, the growth I have experienced is something that has made my time here worthwhile.

Project overview

Hidden Escape

My degree show project has been focused on childhood memories, nostalgia and escape. I want people to see my installation as an area to getaway and forget worldly worries, to think about something positive instead of focusing on the negative. I decided to use family members as part of the audio to further emphasise the feeling of childhood nostalgia. The soundproofing around the listening booth only covers half of the structure to allow the conversations and noises of the gallery to filter through and add more depth to the audio, especially in my childhood the dens I would create would be in the heart of the family home, interacting with everything that was going on around them.
