About

I’m Megan McMillan, a fashion designer who’s all about womenswear but always open to trying something new. I love designing pieces that feel bold, fun, and personal and I’m just as happy sketching out ideas as I am pulling looks together through styling projects. I studied Fashion Design and spent three years diving deep into everything aspect from garment construction to concept development, and now I’m excited to keep growing and finding my voice in the industry.

Illustration is one of my favourite parts of the process, it’s where I get to really bring my ideas to life on paper before they hit the sewing machine. I don’t like to box myself in, so while womenswear is my main focus, I’m keen to accept the challenge and design anything that sparks my creativity. Whether I’m behind a sketchbook or on set styling, I just love making fashion that tells a story and feels like me.

Project overview

Forever Funky

My fashion collection is all about attitude and that aging shouldn’t be seen as a reason to stop wearing whatever you like. I feel you should carry on styling yourself to match your own personality as fashion should never be restricted or exclusive to one demographic. My creative vision is to layer fabrics and clash patterns together as well as create over-the-top accessories to achieve a high fashion confidently assembled outcome.

I will also incorporate my own observations of individuals and personalities I feel illustrate the fact that maximalist dressing can be successfully applied to any age group. I would also like it to look cool and effortless in relation to icons such as the TV character Bet Lynch and fashion icon Iris Apfel who were both very glamorous, unfiltered and trail-blazing. I want to take what could be seen as a’ tacky vibe’ and mix it with a luxurious outcome. My colour palette will be bold, vibrant and playful with a range of different pattern clashing effects using animal prints, florals, and geometrics. In addition, I will be looking into maximalist interiors for inspiration on colour, print, trims, and detailing. I decided to develop this concept to show that style and a forthright attitude doesn’t need to exclusive to a certain category or demographic and can be enjoyed by any age or gender. I really feel it is a form of self-expression and should show your identity and unique tastes throughout your personal fashion journey. Fashion should encourage individuality and creativity, which is what I was to embrace within my fashion collection.
