Hi, I'm Meg and three years ago, I joined this course, unsure where it would lead me, but excited and fuelled with creativity. I’ve not always been sure on my future career path, but the last three years have opened up a world of passion and creativity that I can’t wait to embrace further.
Specifically, throughout the process of completing my final project I feel my ambition, confidence and ability to push my own boundaries has expanded immensely. Producing my publication allowed me to be creative in ways that felt very personal to me, I spent time sustainably sourcing a high percentage of the items I used for my looks, and I really enjoyed customising items to match the vision I had if I couldn’t find what I was searching for. I’m really grateful for everything this course has taught me and can’t wait to develop this further in industry.
Project overview
brewed - A visual exploration of tea
‘Brewed’ is a celebration of tea. Inspired by a display at the Harris Museum, Preston, ‘What does a brew mean to you?’. Seeing this display led me to ask the same question to willing participants, highlighting to me that tea is much more than just a drink to people. It’s a form of reliable comfort, a way to mutually connect with friends, family and even strangers.
Throughout this creative publication you will see a visual exploration of everything that we associate with tea, both historical and contemporary. From the origin of tea in China, to its migration to the UK in the 1660s; to its necessity as a working-class staple compared to the upper-class past time of ‘taking’ afternoon tea – this publication invites you to grab a brew and enjoy.
