About
I am a digital artist and animator with a particular interest in escapist media. I believe that the increasing use of entertainment media to “educate society” or “send a message” has moved it away from one of its fundamental purposes: entertainment and escapism. My work revolves around bringing media back to its roots, creating experiences that allow people to step away from the stresses of the outside world. There is already enough seriousness, information and pressure in everyday life; entertainment should be something you can simply enjoy after a long day of all of that. Unlike animation, my love for VR began only a few years ago, after spending hours in VR without realising how much time had passed, multiple times over. VR has a unique ability to make you a part of the world you're experiencing while still allowing you to remain yourself. You can enter an impossible fantasy world of your choosing, follow its rules, and move in whatever direction you desire. To me, it is one of the most effective forms of freedom available these days, and that is why I love it.
Project overview
Hijacking the mind
Hijacking the Mind is an immersive phobia simulator in Virtual Reality, designed to evoke genuine emotions and natural, instinctive reactions to simulated threats. Every aspect of the experience has been created with the sole purpose of allowing you to forget the outside world and become fully immersed in the virtual world. The project aims to recreate the sense of wonder and immersion associated with the early days of cinema, when people experienced moving images with amazement and fascination, being absorbed into every moment unfolding before them. With the evolution of virtual reality placing you at the centre of the story, this medium represents the next evolution of entertainment. Unlike many other university projects, this experience is not designed to send a message, raise awareness, or convince you of anything. This is escapism through and through, giving you six minutes away from reality to experience something most people have never had the opportunity to. For six minutes, you're the centre of the world. There's nothing else you need to worry about.
