About
My name is Reuben – and I am a freelance artist, sculptor and animator based in the UK. I specialise in making simple and budget friendly stop motion shorts as well as cartoon based 2D animated sequences.
I believe what we experience in life shapes us into the person we become – everyone has a story to tell – and I like to express myself and my stories through the creative process. When it comes to design, sculpting and animation, I take my inspiration from traditional cartoons and more traditional based stop frame animation. The inspiration from this makes my characters and animation more lively and energetic.

Project overview
Unmasked
My final film is called “Unmasked.” It follows Mirage, an eccentric blue owl who works at The Feathersword Theatre. For the past two years, he had shared the stage with a mouse named Pluto – someone he considered his best friend. They shared many wonderful memories together – but all good things must come to an end.
The film is an exploration of the feelings of grief and loss. Having lost several beloved pets and a family member throughout my time at university – mortality and how precious memories can be are themes I wanted to investigate.
Mirage enters his dressing room after a performance and sits at his vanity table. He pries off his masquerade mask and sets it at the table, looking at the board of pictures in front of him. He gets up from his vanity and walks around his dressing room, interacting with various objects that cause the photos to spring to life. He reminisces on the memories he made with his best friend, until a knock at the door jolts him back to reality.
