About
I’m a Preston-based artist and have just finished the foundation year of my Fine Art Degree. I like experimenting with different mediums and creating multi-media pieces. Some of my favourite things to work with are pen, photography and reusing waste materials. I like to create pieces that are eye-catching and reel people in whilst evoking thoughts and conversations on (sometimes uncomfortable) societal issues.
Project overview
Transitions
My work focuses on how women are brought up with expectations of finding love and comfort in things such as dating apps and nightclubs and the disappointment and harm they face when met with the realities of casual misogyny. It emulates the historical idea of debutantes coming out in society and the pristine, white dresses symbolise ideas such as “chastity” and “unworldliness”. The dresses are then ruined by the misogyny women face. All the writing on the dresses are comments or conversations my friends and I have had with men. The final images show women supporting one another to become strong and resilient, showing that beauty can be found outside of society's rigid expectations of “perfection”.
