About

This portfolio displays my architectural work from my third year at the University of Central Lancashire. It brings together key projects completed throughout the academic year, with a clear emphasis on creativity, technical skills, and design that is both attractive and practical. My original interest lay in contemporary and commercial design, but I have developed a strong passion for sustainable architecture. I also approach the built environment with a new sensibility influenced by living in Liverpool, one that promotes real responsiveness to real communities and the expressed needs of everyday life. I am very familiar with AutoCAD, both 2D and 3D, and more recently, I have been teaching myself SketchUp for basic 3D modelling. As far as presentation goes, I use Adobe InDesign to generate ideas to then bring them to life. In addition to my digital tools, I have a practical skill set in 3D printing and laser cutting, which I have used to produce physical models and explore my ideas to a greater extent. For every project, I visualize how the kind of people I design for will make use of the space. I think detail by detail, working to give each part a reason to exist and a character that makes it believably real and functionally effective, as in the and. Feedback has been an important part of my process, helping me reflect, adapt, and grow. I’m looking forward to the professional experiences that lie ahead, the continuing education that will occur largely in the field, and the opportunity to make real contributions to world architectural projects.

Project overview

Echo of the Lake

Situated on Fleetwood’s Boating Lake, just a brief stroll or bike ride from the town centre, this building honours the region’s rich legacy of sailing and community involvement. Inspired by the small model boats that glide across the lake, the design emulates their shapes with tall, sail-like roofs intended to capture light and draw attention from the adjacent bridge and road. The building is accessible on foot, by car, and by public transport, with multiple entry points from both the bridge and waterfront sides. Strategically elevated above the lake’s edge, the design enhances rather than obstructs existing views. Inside, a journey unfolds—from public maker spaces and workshops at the entrance to a lakeside café and private living quarters. Visitors can create custom model boats and transform them into snow globe artefacts, linking craft with heritage. The glass façades reflect the lake and welcome light into the interior, while the sandy-toned exterior anchors the building in its natural environment. More than just a structure, this serves as a sustainable platform for learning, creating, and experiencing Fleetwood’s coastal identity.
