About

My interest in technical design began during my third year at university. Prior to that, I had planned to pursue level design, but after spending more time working with Blueprints in Unreal Engine, I realised that I was far more interested in creating gameplay systems and mechanics. I found that I enjoyed the entire process: designing systems, testing them, identifying issues, refining them, and ultimately seeing them function successfully in-game.

Having spent much of my life playing games, I naturally became curious about how they work behind the scenes. And having experienced a wide variety of games has helped me appreciate the small details that make gameplay feel engaging, responsive, and satisfying.

Over the course of this year, I have become increasingly certain that combining technical problem-solving with game design is the career path I want to pursue within the games industry. This blend of creativity and logic is what motivates me most, and I am excited to continue developing my skills in technical design.

Project overview

Rattle & Ruin

Rattle & Ruin is a turn-based strategy game where you command a party consisting of a Knight, Rogue, and Mage as they battle through a series of increasingly challenging encounters.

Each character fulfils a distinct role in combat. The Knight acts as the team's defender, absorbing damage and protecting allies. The Rogue specialises in swift attacks and poison effects, while the Mage provides powerful offensive spells alongside healing and support abilities.

After key battles, players visit the tavern, where they can choose from a selection of new abilities, passive upgrades, and stat boosts. These choices shape each character's strengths and allow players to customise their team, creating new strategies for future encounters.

My goal was to create a game that is easy to learn but offers meaningful strategic depth. While the core mechanics are accessible, success depends on careful decision-making and adapting your approach as enemies become more powerful. The journey culminates in a final boss battle that puts both your tactical skills and the team you have built throughout the game to the ultimate test
