About
A year ago I did a photoshoot as a response to my grandads passing, it was merely a way for me to process my grief. However after doing that photoshoot and loving the images, I realised I had no where to actually showcase that shoot. I could post it on Instagram and that was about it, so to honor this shoot I wanted to create a space that allowed preloved styling to stand alongside normal fashion. As my experience has been heavily in charity after graduating from UCLAN in 2020, it was a great way to incorporate my charity experience and my styling experience. That's how I ended with Nathan. My new pathway is making a space for preloved fashion and encouraging men to join this journey with me, and hopefully push a stronger narrative for charity shop fashion and how good it can be for the world.
Project overview
nathan. magazine
Nathan. magazine is a preloved menswear magazine aimed at showing the potential of dressing second-hand. It takes all the best from preloved routes like charity shops (check out Laurie Blake’s vintage cowboy jacket loaned from Cancer Research UK on page 87) and embodies different themes to prove it's just as fashionable, and in fact can compete alongside new fashion. The goal of Nathan. is to encourage men to make more conscious decisions that better the planet. I believe the environmental crisis can appear overwhelming and disheartening, so by having optimism as my brand’s key pillar I can promote positive and optimistic outlooks on the world that will help readers become passionate to make these small changes. The first issue’s theme is passion with each photoshoot pursuing a different concept that incorporates my own passions in various ways (this is why the wind turbine club exists) I decided to include Gab and Laurie as my celebrity interviews as they are both embodiments of passion for their respective industries and also included articles that allow the writers to discuss their own passions. With the magazine officially launching in September, there are currently talks with distributors to get it into magazine shops across the UK. So, stay tuned as you might just see Nathan. in your local shop.
