About

Sarah Muldowney is a UK-based fashion designer known for her refined construction, purposeful silhouettes, and commitment to sustainable design. With a background in Fashion Design and a hands-on approach to every stage of the creative process, she crafts garments that balance precision, innovation, and wearability. Sarah’s work is deeply process-driven — from initial concept through to garment finishing — with a focus on fabric manipulation, textural depth, and detail-oriented craftsmanship. Her collections are rooted in a zero-waste ethos, often incorporating offcuts into new pieces and using hand-finishing techniques to ensure durability and longevity.

She is passionate about creating gender-inclusive designs that move beyond seasonal trends, aiming instead for timeless silhouettes that can adapt with the wearer. Her practice reflects a deep respect for materials and construction, and she strives to make clothing that feels considered, empowering, and built to last. Dedicated, curious, and driven by a love of thoughtful design, Sarah continues to evolve her creative identity while remaining grounded in quality, function, and responsible making.

Project overview

Raising the Bar

My collection explores the intersection of personal memory and cultural formality through a refined blend of structure and fluidity. Rooted in early recollections of my father’s profession as a barrister, the designs are inspired by the traditional black-and-white court attire, reinterpreting its precision and symbolism through modern construction techniques. Pin-tuck detailing and layered textiles draw directly from the cascading forms of horsehair wigs, while formal silhouettes pay tribute to courtroom dress codes. To soften this rigidity, the collection introduces fluid lines, asymmetry, and sculptural deconstruction, referencing the organic architecture of Zaha Hadid and the abstract expressionism of Beñat Olaberria. These elements bring balance and movement, disrupting symmetry and encouraging a more adaptable silhouette.

A considered selection of natural fabrics - including cotton, silk organza, and hand-dyed textiles, reflects a commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship. Each piece is created using a zero-waste approach, with a focus on longevity, versatility, and timeless design. The collection is gender-inclusive and seasonless, designed to empower through contrasts: tradition meets innovation, structure meets softness. It is a quiet celebration of memory, meaning, and modern tailoring.
