About
I'm Sophie and I'm originally from Sheffield but am now based in St Annes. I was drawn to UCLan as when I was applying for university I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a professional dancer or pursue a teaching career, so I wanted to choose a degree that would give me both options and help me decide.
Project overview
Final Year Dance Program
As a final year BA Hons Dance Performance and Teaching student at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) I have been undertaking research, as part of module DA3360 Facilitation, into how Developmental Movement Patterns (DMP) can support my facilitation of dance to early years.
My interest in this area of work was sparked through a workshop with Anna Daly in 2022 where she took us through the eight key stages of the Developmental Movement Patterns. Developmental Movement Patterning was pioneered by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen in the 1970s. These stages are said to be the ‘automatic movement responses that underlie all voluntary movement possibilities for an individual.’ (Cooksey Bekos, 2019).
