About
I’m an author, illustrator and graphic designer living in Southport, UK. I completed my BA in illustration at the University of Central Lancashire, before undertaking an MA in children’s book illustration. I’m inspired by all things nature, fantasy, and whimsical. I work mostly in Procreate, but am also proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I’m very passionate about inclusion and representation, which is the focus of my debut picture book ‘Jack’s Journey to the Stars’.
Project overview
Jack's Journey to the Stars
The focus of my MA research has been on minority representation in children’s books, and how it can be improved. This has come together in my project ‘Jack’s Journey to the Stars’: a modern fairytale picture book. Since this genre has historically excluded POC, LGBT people and disabled people, my goal is to create a story that these children can see themselves in. The book follows a slightly unconventional format for a children’s fiction picture book, being 36 pages long and quite text heavy. I wanted to create something unique and out of the box, with a rich, complex world and characters. My biggest inspirations have been Julia Sarda and Jayne Ray.
