About
I am a foundation year architecture student driven by a deep curiosity for space, structure, and the emotional impact of design. My journey into architecture began with a fascination for how environments shape human experience not only through form and function but also through atmosphere, material and light. As I’ve developed my skills, I’ve grown more interested in how sustainability and inclusivity can be embedded in design, making spaces that are not only beautiful but also responsible and accessible. Through academic projects like the music house which was nominated for a university architecture award, and my conceptual stilt house design in Avenham Park, I’ve explored themes of community, nature and resilience. My work is influenced by a balance between artistic expression and practical structure, drawing inspiration from both contemporary and historical architecture, as well as the exhibition methods used by architects and artists alike. I see myself not just as a future architect, but as an artist of space interested in storytelling through buildings, and creating designs that connect deeply with people and place.
Project overview
AOC002: Final Major Project P2 Stilt House
This project proposes a sustainable stilt house elevated above the ground in Avenham Park, Preston. Designed with resilience, ecology, and modern living in mind, the structure measures 22m x 10m and stands 6.5m above the ground on 7.5m metal stilts (with 1m anchored underground for stability). The elevation protects against ground moisture and future flooding while minimising site disruption. The material palette emphasises concrete and wood, combining robustness with natural warmth. The exterior features wooden paneling, large glass openings, and high-security glazing at the rear for both transparency and privacy. A key highlight is the integration of passive design strategies including solar panels on the roof and rainwater collection tanks at ground level to reduce the environmental footprint. The house includes: • A left-side balcony (1.5m x 16.25m) offering panoramic park views • A rear balcony (2.5m x 10m) for private outdoor space • Five side windows, a roof window, and full-height glass doors to maximise daylight and connection with nature This stilt house represents a light-touch intervention in a sensitive green setting, balancing modern architecture with environmental stewardship. It demonstrates a forward-looking approach to rural or parkland living elevated, efficient, and ecologically attuned.
